Grand Illumination

packet.name

Christmas in Colonial Williamsburg is a very special time, especially the Grand Illumination when fireworks are set off and candles in every window are lit. The colonists celebrated a Grand Illumination on special days such as the King’s birthday or when the Governor’s wife came to town. These ornaments depict the fireworks behind the Governor’s Palace and two windows with lit candles and greenery which would have been cut and used to decorate at the Christmas season.
